Karl Marx is the originator of communist thought in Western political theory. Through his works cowritten with Engels he transformed the modern world for arguably the better and the worse. The Communist Manifesto followed Hegel's dialectical method and ended with two antagonistic groups, the bourgeoisie and proletariat. The theory was used by Lenin and the Bolsheviks to found the U.S.S.R. in the 1917 Russian revolution.
