ESSENCE
From Philosophy
The essence is the internal sense of something; essence is the law of development of something; essence is the internal aspect of the thing, hidden behind the surface phenomena. The essence is what makes a thing what it is.
The Greek philosopher Plato believed that every single thing in the world that we perceive through the senses, it has its kind or Eidos: for example, beauty, justice, a straight line. This species is always a general, but it exists separate of the things we perceive through our senses.
